Products Description

316 & 316L stainless steel wire is a kind of fine wire made of stainless steel. It has the characteristics of corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance and high strength.

Steel GradeCSiMnPSCrMoNi
316≤0.08≤1.00≤2.00≤0.045≤0.0316~184~310~14
316L≤0.03≤1.00≤2.00≤0.045≤0.0316~182~312~15

316 & 316L Stainless Steel Wire Features

● Corrosion resistance: 316 and 316L stainless steel contain molybdenum (Mo), which greatly improves their corrosion resistance in acidic and chloride environments (such as seawater, salt spray, chemical industry).

● High temperature resistance: It has excellent oxidation resistance and can maintain good mechanical properties in high temperature environments, suitable for high temperature processing or application scenarios.

● High strength and toughness: The material has high tensile strength and can maintain a long service life in harsh environments. It also has good toughness and fatigue resistance.

● Good welding performance: 316L is a low-carbon version (carbon content ≤ 0.03%), which is not easy to produce carbide precipitation during welding, thereby avoiding intergranular corrosion, and is particularly suitable for occasions that require welding.

● Non-magnetic: In the annealed state, 316 and 316L are usually non-magnetic, suitable for equipment or environments that are sensitive to magnetic fields.

Difference Between 316 and 316L

● Carbon content: The carbon content of 316L is lower than that of 316 (≤0.03% vs ≤0.08%), so 316L will not produce intergranular corrosion after welding.

● Mechanical strength: The tensile strength of 316 is slightly lower than that of 316L, but 316L has better corrosion resistance and welding performance.

Application

Marine Applications

● Corrosion Resistance: 316 stainless steel wire is highly resistant to saltwater and marine environments, making it ideal for use in shipbuilding, offshore platforms, and marine equipment.

● Cables and Rigging**: Used for marine cables, rigging, and fishing nets due to its strength and resistance to rust.

Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry

● Surgical Instruments: 316 stainless steel wire is used in the manufacture of surgical instruments, orthopedic implants, and dental tools due to its biocompatibility and resistance to bodily fluids.

● Medical Devices: Used in catheters, stents, and other medical devices requiring high corrosion resistance and sterilization.

Chemical and Petrochemical Industry

● Chemical Processing Equipment: Used in reactors, heat exchangers, and piping systems where resistance to corrosive chemicals is required.

● Filtration Systems: Employed in wire mesh filters and screens for chemical processing.

Food and Beverage Industry

● Food Processing Equipment: 316 stainless steel wire is used in food processing machinery, conveyor belts, and storage tanks due to its resistance to food acids and ease of cleaning.

● Brewing and Distilling: Used in brewing tanks, fermentation vessels, and other equipment exposed to acidic environments.

Architectural and Construction Applications

● Structural Components: Used in construction for reinforcing concrete, suspension bridges, and architectural mesh due to its strength and aesthetic appeal.

● Fasteners and Hardware: Bolts, screws, and other fasteners made from 316 stainless steel wire are used in corrosive environments.

Aerospace Industry

● Aircraft Components: Used in aircraft cables, springs, and fasteners due to its high strength-to-weight ratio and resistance to extreme temperatures.

● Engine Parts: Employed in components exposed to high temperatures and corrosive gases.

Automotive Industry

● Exhaust Systems: 316 stainless steel wire is used in exhaust systems and mufflers due to its resistance to high temperatures and corrosive gases.

● Springs and Fasteners: Used in automotive springs, clips, and fasteners requiring durability and corrosion resistance.

Jewelry and Decorative Applications

● Jewelry Making: 316 stainless steel wire is used in crafting bracelets, necklaces, and other jewelry due to its hypoallergenic properties and resistance to tarnish.

● Decorative Mesh: Used in architectural and interior design for decorative panels, balustrades, and sculptures.

Industrial Applications

● Springs and Wire Forms: Used in industrial springs, wire forms, and clips due to its excellent mechanical properties.

● Welding and Fabrication: 316 stainless steel wire is used as filler material in welding applications requiring high corrosion resistance.

Environmental and Wastewater Treatment

● Water Treatment Plants: Used in filtration systems, screens, and tanks in water treatment facilities due to its resistance to chlorides and other chemicals.

● Pollution Control Equipment: Employed in scrubbers and other pollution control devices.
